Sokratis Papastathopoulos in UK to finalise Arsenal move from Borussia Dortmund

Written by on July 2, 2018

Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has arrived in the UK to finalise his transfer to Arsenal, according to Sky sources.

Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed last week that a deal for the Greece international was close and an official announcement of his signing is expected soon.

The 30-year-old, who has won 79 caps for his country, looks set to become Unai Emery’s third major signing of the summer.

They have already brought in goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen and former Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Papastathopoulos made 28 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, having established himself in the starting line-up.

He joined Dortmund in 2013 after spells at Weder Bremen, Genoa, AC Milan and AEK Athens.
