Persons suspected to be cultists have allegedly murdered a 25-year-old man identified as Felix Olowookere in Akungba Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Olowookere was reportedly killed by some youths suspected to be cultists at the Ibaka area.
The deceased was said to be a computer repairer who repaired the computers of the students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.
The incident, which happened on Sunday, occurred barely 24 hours after the family celebrated the wedding of the deceased’s sister on Saturday.
According to a source in the town, the suspected assailants carried out the dastardly act after the deceased’s father had been away for the thanksgiving service for the Saturday’s wedding.
The source said, “His assailants used axes, cutlasses and broken bottles on him during the scuffle and he died during the assault. Immediately after killing him, the assailants fled.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said it was a case of cult clash.
He also stated that the command had begun investigation into the matter.
“We have commenced investigation on the matter. It was a case of cult clash, but we are yet to ascertain whether the deceased was a member of any cult group or not,” Joseph said.
Meanwhile, Olowookere’s corpse has been deposited at the mortuary of the Ondo State Specialists Hospital, Ikare Akoko.
